There’s certain topics out there that geeks like me just cannot ignore – no matter how hard I try! Bigfoot is one of these such topics – it’s the type of subject that breathes life into sites like this.

I’m lucky enough to come across numerous recommendations on publications during the day-to-day running of this site. One of these recommendations took my eye and I spent the following several days making my way through it…

The book is called Bigfoot Exploring the Myth & Discovering the Truth and it was so impressive I decided to write a review on my experiences with it. In this book review I will discuss it’s theories on Bigfoot , how accurate it is, some minor drawbacks with it, and where to get the best deal when you buy it online.

By the end of this review, you should have a good idea as to whether Bigfoot Exploring the Myth & Discovering the Truth is the right book for you.

Bigfoot Exploring the Myth & Discovering the Truth – Product Overview

Investigators Tom Burnette and Rob Riggs combine their Bigfoot encounters past and present into one book – Bigfoot Exploring the Myth & Discovering the Truth.

Over the past two decades Burnette and Riggs have dedicated themselves to finding Bigfoot research. They have combined their efforts and followed up leads on Bigfoot in the Smoky Mountains and Bigfoot in southeast Texas.

Drawing on forty-plus years of combined field study, Burnette and Riggs have put together their own personal ethnographic research and theories into this book. They supply the reader with their view on the evidence supporting Bigfoot’s existence.

During the course of the book you will learn about the creature’s history, habitats, and behaviors. Below are a handful of reviews this publication has received:

Reviews on finding bigfoot research

The Good & The Bad

The Pros:

  • No sensationalism – just the facts as the authors experienced them
  • Both authors have had numerous experiences with the creature in various states of the US
  • Book is created from extensive field work
  • Written in a journalistic style which is enjoyable to read
  • Looks into the psychic and paranormal side of the creature and how it is able to evade capture
  • You do not have to be a ‘believer’ to enjoy this book ( but it helps! )
  • An unassuming read that allows the reader to formulate their own opinions

The Cons:

  • Some of the ideas Burnette and Riggs speculate on may seem a little bizarre to some less open-minded individuals
  • Some people have complained about lack of evidence provided by the two authors

Who is This Book For?

This book is for anyone who has an interest in Bigfoot encounters past and present. It’s an original take on a famous cryptozoolgy subject that will interest readers from all walks of life.

Our Final Opinion on Bigfoot Exploring the Myth & Discovering the Truth

This was an extremely enjoyable read that reminded me somewhat of the ideas behind the movie Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes. I loved the way the two authors have been thinking ‘outside the box’ and were willing to cover ANY theories on Bigfoot ( no matter how bizarre and far fetched! ).

Tom Burnette covers the incidents and evidence of Bigfoot in the Smoky Mountains whilst Rob Riggs covers the evidence of Bigfoot in Southeast Texas.

They both seem extremely likable characters that don’t hold back with their writing style – I was VERY surprised at the colorful language used by Tom Burnette in certain sections!

If you’re a geek like me you’re gonna love this book – well worth reading!

  1. I have always been intrigued by “unexplained mysteries”. I can’t say that I am a true believer, however stories about creatures such as Bigfoot and the Lochness monster always leave me wondering. This book sounds like it would provide a lot of information about Big Foot. Do you know if it is available for Kobo/Kindle?

    1. Hi there Tanya,
Yes I do believe both these formats offer this title at Amazon. The links we’ve provided above are direct links to Amazon so a quick click should give you all the info you need on the product ( it’s an awesome read!!! ).
      Enjoy 🙂

  2. I guess bigfoot will always be a hot topic. I have not read the book and I think you present it nicely. I am very much sceptical about the existence of bigfoot, and it would be unlikely that it would raise hair on the back of my neck, as pointed out in that review which you provided on the text. No doubt many will disagree with my point of view.

    1. Hi Jovo,
No that’s fine – everyone’s entitled to their view on this site 🙂
We get a lot of skeptics on here and we always welcome their point of view – it’s great engagement for our site!
Thanks for taking the time to leave your opinion.

  3. I’ve always been fascinated by phenomena such as Bigfoot, Yeti, Loch Ness Monster, etc. The mazing thing to me is just how varied and surprising nature really is. You’d think that very cataloged all the world’s life forms by now, but not at all. New species are regularly being found. With regards to Big Foot, why haven’t we had even more encounters with them. If they are at home in the Pacific Northwest you’d think more people would have seen them.

    1. Hi Mike,
That is actually one of the questions that the author(s) of this book tackle – they feel there are a lot more sightings that slip under the radar on a yearly basis! With so many reports from respectable people out there it’s impossible to dismiss the subject 🙂

  4. This is one topic that has been around for decades and rightly so. This book on Bigfoot Exploring the Myth & Discovering the Truth is definitely the kind of stuff I like to read and learn about. I have always had an interest into areas of the unknown.
All the TV shows that document on the fact of whether or not Bigfoot is real or just a myth are great so a book like this sounds like a great read into another aspect of what do you believe.
    Nice job on the review.

    1. Hi Travis, Thanks for saying so!
If you enjoy the subject of Bigfoot then this publication is definitely up your street – they cover all the angles within it 🙂
If you decide to check it out don’t forget to come back here and leave your overall opinions on it!!!

  5. Chris, this website although as mind boggling as it is (to me anyway) is very interesting content, that was hard for to stop reading, because it was Iike reading a mystery or a who done it that you want to know the ending.

This is not something I indulge in, but nevertheless your site is definitely engaging. With this unique site, you probably cornered the market. Good luck with your creepy lol online business.

    1. Well that’s great to hear Maurice – glad you enjoyed the content here so much! Please feel free to stop by again any time 🙂

  6. For me Big Foot is nothing more than a fictional character. However, it intrigues how some people believe it’s real and I would read this book just to understand the theories behind its existence. What makes so many people believe Big Foot exists and not Vampires or Werewolves? Anyway based on your review I would read this book.

    1. Hi Ana,
Well we’re all entitled to our opinions at the end of the day – and we accept all opinions here!
It’s nice to see you are willing to give the book a try even though you are not a believer yourself – good for you 🙂
      Hope you enjoy it!

  7. While partly skeptical, I always like to believe that anything is possible! There’s always a little room for the belief that it could actually be true….!

Even if this book didn’t turn me into a believer, it sounds like a book I think I’d enjoy. I’ll be sure to give this a read!

    1. That’s OK Sarah – we accept all opinions and views here!
They help the engagement and the discussions on the site – great to have your views ( and I hope you enjoy the book! )

  8. I love book reviews and this site is fab!

I have never really believed in Big Foot (or Nessie for that matter) but the subject tickle me pick.

I like the way you simplify the information here, how you have it organized. It’s very clear and concise.

Your writing style is quite dramatic, have you written a book yourself? The pros and cons part is nice as it sums up everything you have said. Talking about the cons though, I have read a number of books one recently about the search for the ark by some professor. This book also has a number of ‘leaps of faith’ in it that you as the reader need to take in order to believe what they are telling you.

    Great review site. Thanks

    1. Hi Dillon,
First of all – I’m really glad you enjoyed the style of the review so much! Thanks 🙂
No I haven’t written a book myself, I usually only write articles for websites ( much like this one! )

  9. Hi Chris, I am a fan of mystery stories myself. I have watched big foot movies and after reading your review it just tempts me to get one of these books and read it for myself. I’m just curious you only have links for UK & US residents.
It’s there any possibility that someone outside both of these countries can get that book?

    1. Yes I believe so Kumar – all you have to do is click the link and you should be taken to your demographic version of Amazon 🙂

  10. My wife’s father is a HUGE bigfoot fan and a true believer. He goes to all the conventions, I kid you not. Now, I’m not saying bigfoot doesn’t exists, but someone should have found him by now. I read the review and I might have to buy this for him. Thanks!

  11. I’ve often wondered what bigfoot actually is. What do you think it is? Is it just a big bear? Is it a gorilla? Is it a man in a costume? These are all realistic possibilities.

I doubt it is an animal we have never seen before. Why? Because in order for a species to survive there would need to be several of them and they would need to breed. If it’s just one, once it dies then it’s gone.

Of course, it could be a rare species that exists hidden away from people. Maybe there is just a small number of them. But I would have thought the numbers would either have grown or become extinct. One or the other.

    1. That’s a good point Marcus – of course there would need to be more than one for the species to exist! There are sightings of this creature all over the world don’t forget 🙂

  12. I’ve always considered the mythical creatures (bigfoot, dwarves, gobling, faerie, Nessie etc.) to be expressions of energies or spirit forms beyond the physical.
Users of psychedelic substances commonly report seeing, meeting and engaging with such creatures, as do dream reports, or out-of-body reports, and so on.

I guess if they were physical creatures we’d have found them by now, so the question would be… do we believe that we live in a strictly physical universe, or do we believe there are nonphysical layers of reality which we may or may not be able to interact with?

    I prefer Dragons and Basilisks.

    1. Hi there Sangemaru,
I prefer to take the route of nonphysical layers of reality that we are not in tune with and therefore cannot interact with. It would explain so many strange occurrences on this planet!
Love your opinion on this – thanks for sharing it with us 🙂

  13. I like this review and I’m sold. I love anything like this, or paranormal stuff, that is not not sensationalized. I like more of the scientific approach to understanding such mysteries. Bigfoot has been around in pop culture for a long time, but only recently have more scientific approaches been used to unravel the mystery. I Like the new Survivorman Bigfoot series, which delves into discovering the truth. How scientifically accurate is the book?

    1. Well that’s hard to answer seeing that people’s perceptions are different Micheal. I would say that this is definitely one of the best cryptozoology books available on the subject though 🙂

  14. Hello there!
This review was very thorough and informative and on a topic that is very interesting. I don’t know much about Bigfoot but I would love to learn some stories. This book sound great. It’s exactly what I need!
I am going to be purchasing soon! The price is very friendly too.
Thank you so much for sharing!

  15. Excellent, well written review on Bigfoot Exploring The Myth. It made me want to read it, just to see what stories were being told!

Now while I’m not necessarily a believer in Bigfoot, I do believe that there are all kinds of things out there that go unexplained, and ultimately, I’d more than likely never be found in Bigfoot’s natural habitat, so I guess I’d have to stick to the book. I need to check for the kindle version.

    1. Hi Christian,
The links at the bottom of the page are direct to Amazon where you will find various versions of the book ( including Kindle! ).

  16. As a kid, I’ve always been fascinated by subjects like this–it’s great you have a very nicely laid out site on it! As for psychic abilities, I do believe people can tap into the spiritual realm. I’ve read about the “3rd eye” and the Pineal gland located in our brains–it’s been called a gateway to the spiritual realm. However, I wouldn’t try to develop it without prayer to God because you could tap into dark angelic forces that seem like they are Godly, but are really destructive–the demon Lucifer is called the “Light Bearer”. On his deathbed, the self described Head of the Church of Satan, Anton LaVey, said something to the effect of “This is Wrong! Oh no, very wrong!”

  17. Great post,

I know many people find it hard to believe in the existence of supposedly mythical creatures such as BigFoot and the Loch Ness Monster however is it really so hard to imagine.

An example, I’m originally from New Zealand, and for almost 150 years the storm petrel (a bird) was considered extinct and sightings of the bird were dismissed as attention seekers and hoax …until 2011 when one was caught, photographed and scientifically proven to be a storm petrel

The same goes with the Takahe, a large flightless bird…extinct for 200 years…until 220 of them were found in the south island!

Now NZ is a small place…and these birds were extinct and gone (but not really)….so it poses the question…

    Love your article

    1. Cheers Jason, glad you enjoyed the article so much 🙂
Thanks or chiming in with this comment as well – I was unaware of the Takahe and Storm Petrel beforehand!

  18. Hello, I’m not familiar with this myth but it seems that you are really passionate and you share your passion so easily that I went into it. How long have you been exploring these unexplained topics? Thank you for this great post and continue to do your good job of information!

  19. I think that some truth hides behind every myth. Now believing in the existence of bigfoot is a different story … but its possible existence is not something that bothers =)! After all… I will take the example of the oceans, we only know a fraction of the beings that inhabit the seabed, so it is quite possible that the abyss hide unknown “monsters”.
Maybe very few people have actually seen bigfoot because he is able to breathe underwater? O.O
I’m joking. Anyway, your review has tickled my geek curiosity. I’ll definitely add “bigfoot exploring the myth discovering the truth” to my “to read” list
    Cheers! =)

  20. Hey Chris, ran across one of your articles again. I’ve mentioned before how my girlfriends father is a huge BIGFOOT believer. You’ve recommended another book, which I did actually pick up for him. Bigfoot Exploring the Myth & Discovering the Truth looks like another snag that I will have to add to his collection. Do you believe? Where is he? So many possibilities

    1. Oh I certainly believe yes John! As to where he is or where he hides out – that’s a question we’ll struggle to answer until one is actually captured.

  21. Omg the Big Foot is a classic.. It was bigger when I was a kid. I saw movies about it in the woods to meet up the great Big Foot! Is great to be about to review and captivate the imagination again that once was about the iconic book you display today awesome!

  22. I have always discern the unexplained Big Foot, stories. There no way people can talk about Big Foot, over 100 years, and there not be any truth to the stories. Chris Evans Website cover many Myth & Discoveries that can not be answers by our leadership. Learn to sleep with one eyes open.

    1. LOL ‘Learn to sleep with one eye open’ – I like that Karma, thanks for stopping by and leaving the comment ( made me smile! )

  23. One of the greatest mysteries of all time! Very detailed review of a book that is worth buying. I like the way you split your review with pros and cons, it makes it very easy to read and to have a quick idea of what one can expect from the book. And thanks to you, I learned a new word: ‘cryptozoology’!

  24. I cannot remember how many times I have watched the documentary about Bigfoot. There are so many eye witness accounts and little evidence was found.

There was this one video where they recorded Bigfoot walking and the experts say that it is impossible for a human in a monkey suit to walk that way. This makes me wondering whether Bigfoot is really real. Our world is big and I cannot imagine why he would not be.

  25. Great review. I have always been a believer in the supernatural and mysteries that have been declared myths. I’m considering getting this Bigfoot book but I Would appreciate a longer more in depth overview, I don’t want any spoilers, just some more content to know what i’m getting into to! Keep up the awesome work.

  26. I can’t say I’ve ever been a believer in the existence of Big Foot (or other creatures like the Loch Ness Monster). There simply isn’t enough evidence for me.

However, that being said, I always do enjoy both documentaries and books on the subject of creatures like these. You don’t have to believe they truly exist to enjoy either reading about them or watching television shows about them. At the very least it sounds like a great adventure to try and track them down and gain that crucial evidence that they are real.

  27. Ooooh – I have always been intrigued by mysteries and mythology… I am not sure how much of it I buy into but I am a very open minded person so am willing to be persuaded 🙂

As you mentioned though, this kind of thing should not be read at night especially if you live near the woods – I am a glutton for punishment though (same with horror movies) so will probably have to sleep with all the lights on afterwards.

  28. So these guys actually encountered a big foot? Besides aliens and UFOs, I hardly believe in anything until I see it for real. I always thought big foot was just myth and never paid much attention to it. And if they’re barely encountered that means possbily there are only a few ones that’s out there. Then how can they maintain their lineage? Wouldn’t they be extinct by now? Hm..

  29. I enjoyed this review because of your writing style and obvious enthusiasm for the subject. But I am very sceptical about the stories of creatures that are “out there” such as Big Foot, the Loch Ness Monster, Mothman, El Chupacabra etc etc etc – they are the Minotaurs, the Golems, the Chinese Dragons of our time. Just like those ancient mysteries they will be replaced by new mysteries in the centuries to come.

What really fascinates me is the need in humankind to allow myths like these to perpetuate. The human imagination is vast and maybe such stories help to fill the void. Children have their fairy tales after all. Because of this psychological interest I would probably read this book, or similar books.

  30. Thanks for this really clear and in-depth article about the the Bigfoot mystery.
I am always been intrigued with the paranormal phenomena and I just love reading about it and for sure will have look at your book.
Your other articles are also really cool and described a lot of unknown things.

  31. I really loved your theme! May I ask though why the link for the book is at the bottom? I loved the reading but I feel that if someone wanted to buy i the easiest place o find the link would be towards the initial review! The content on your site is great as well. I really enjoyed reading it, and I am not usually a fan of mysteries.

Also, was their a reason behind the placing of your menu and the product reviews? I Am wondering if anything if the placing should be prior to the privacy policy!

    1. Well I try not to get too pushy with affiliate links Elizabeth – if a reader is interested I prefer them to get to the end of the review before seeing any links.

  32. Bigfoot is one of the many unexplained mysteries that always seems to grab my attention. I have only seen T.V shows or videos that talk about Bigfoot so i’m very interested in reading about it and this book you reviewed seems like a good one to start with. Is this book available on audible?

  33. Hi Chris, you seem like a very nice and knowledgeable person. It looks like you really know what you’re talking about.

We all know that science sometimes can’t explain certain things. It seems that a Bigfoot is one of them (well, at least for now). I’ll definitely consider buying this book. It looks very interesting and your description of it is also very appealing 🙂

  34. I’ve always liked the sci-fi/mystery books category, they’re just a fun read, I’ll usually take them when I’m traveling when I feel like giving my mind a break for a bit and relax.

With the book do they offer some additional sources to accredit their claims or are the claims just directly from one source and that’s it?

I wouldn’t say I’m a believer but I can understand the obsession if I saw something like that, I would want to prove everyone wrong too!

I’ll give it a look, thanks for sharing!

    1. They cover many different angles Tyler – although the book is written from the author’s standpoint overall! 🙂

  35. Like you, I must admit that mysteries like Bigfoot absolutely fascinate me. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that Bigfoot information is somewhat of a guilty pleasure. Thank you for calling this book to my attention. Burnette and Riggs seem like guys who have really done their homework. I’m looking forward to reading it!
