The name ‘The Plan’ may not be the most exciting name for a piece of paranormal investigation software but it definitely has some interesting features.

Furthermore, its creator – a ghost hunter named Dennis A. Batchelor – claims that it is the #1 paranormal software of choice for ghost hunters around the world.

This is a strong claim that needs some great evidence to back it up.

Batchelor claims that this approach helped him to become the success that he is today and there is clearly plenty of potential within the software…

What is The Plan?

The Plan is a CD-rom that provides simple tools for amateur paranormal investigators. This ghost hunting computer software is designed to help users bring all of their data together so they never have to worry about losing reports.

paranormal studio software

It is all about case management. With The Plan, users can compile case notes, witness statements, photos, videos and all kinds of observational data to create an organised file where everything can be easily located and compared.

As a result, it should be easier for users to create compelling, detailed evidence and to communicate ideas.

The Good & The Bad

The Pros:

1) Simple Approach: Users can create reports and log data via simple, understandable forms and templates. These files have a detailed structure, but are easy enough to navigate that newcomers can get to grips with them pretty quickly. This is aided by the Auto Fill feature.

2) Multiple Users: An additional benefit with this system is the fact that more than one member of a team can add data to these files. This means that group efforts become more co-ordinated as users stay on the same page. There is also the ability to email all users at once.

3) Customization: Batchelor designed The Plan so that it could be easily customized to suit users’ tastes. This also means that businesses can add logos and cover letter designs to the files for personalization. This can be a great help when attracting new clients.

4) Security: The system is able to add password protection to reports. This means that sensitive information can be protected from other users until the creator is ready to make it public.

5) Support: The software is pretty easy to use, but there is still a “help” function that takes users to a dedicated support website. Here users can receive guidance on common issues and learn more about the features.

The Cons:

1) Professionalism: On the sales page, Batchelor asks the question “do you want to look professional?”. The problem is that the look of both the software and the support website is far from it. The software gives a user-friendly approach to data compilation, but it is not the best looking program.

2) Windows Only: Sorry but this software WILL NOT run on Macs!

Who is The Plan For?

There is a clear target market for this ghost hunting computer software – teams of keen, novice investigators that aren’t the most technically minded.

The problem highlighted above may not be too much of an issue to the more technophobic user that wants the most basic formats and doesn’t have the most modern devices.

ghost hunting computer software

The level of detail to the data that can be added and features like the customization mean that this a great tool for novice teams that want to take the business further.

The software should help to build cohesion within the team and improve credibility when trying to attract new cases.

Our Final Verdict on The Plan

There are some clear limitations in this paranormal studio software, but the look and user-friendly approach could be ideal for the right user.

The Plan is designed to be easy enough to use that all novice teams – and all members on that team – can compile all of the data they have with ease, but it only goes so far.

This program is an entry-level tool for ghost hunters that want a simple file management system that understands their requirements.

With The Plan, users should be able to compile case files on paranormal activity with greater depth and precision than ever before.

  1. Wow! I didn’t know that there was actual paranormal investigation software available for public use. This is definitely interesting as I feel I’ve had some paranormal experiences myself when I was younger.

Seems like a relatively inexpensive product that starters like me can use. And I like how it comes with the 60-day money back guarantee.

    What does it actually include?

    1. Hi Yaki, we’ve included all the main points in the article above. If you need a little more detail please feel free to click one of the links in the review – they will take you straight to the official website that holds The Plan. 🙂

  2. Hi Chris Evans,, This software will be a great tool.. especially to know that it is user friendly and multi user which also allows password protection makes it a very good choice in its class. With this information can be organized and analyzed for investigations without loosing any trace of evidence.. However I will like to know whether the cost is a one-off cost or requires some renewals? Thanks.

  3. This was so interesting. I have a friend I am looking to buy a buy a gift for and he has always talked about ghosts and ghost hunting. To be honest I often switched off, but this could be a really original gift for him.

Do you think that even if he hasn’t used something like this before that he could start now?

    1. Definitely Ruth, I was a bit overwhelmed by the idea of it at first but I was soon amazed by how easy it is to use! 🙂

  4. Awesome Paranormal Site! In my opinion who cares about the look of the software, as long as it works great that’s what I’d be interested in!
I’ve been a big fan of Coast To Coast AM and this would be great for a lot of listeners from there trying to get into the paranormal scene!

Do you have any recommendations on cameras for seeing ghosts?

    1. Cameras? Well the more expensive the camera the better in most cases LOL! I would go with something that has a night vision function or similar if I was you Erich.

  5. Chris, let me start by saying what an amazing page! I’m a geek myself, so your About Me section gave me a great impression of how smart and humorous you are! The pros and cons are comprehensible and all the research is right there in front of me! What really caught my interest were the books in the Education Zone. I’m thinking of purchasing the Ghost Hunting for Beginners if I can gather the courage to explore the unknown lol! Overall great website. Keep up the good work!

  6. Chris,

Interesting review, who’d have thought… ghost hunting software. Fascinating.

I’ve seen the ghost hunting stuff on TV, does this software allow amateur GH’s the ability to add all their different files in ‘case’ folders?

I mean video and audio files that may have been recorded on site.

Do you use this software yourself?

    1. That’s exactly what this software is for Richard! I have a copy of it myself yes – bought it for the purpose of this review 🙂

  7. Hi Chris,
Honestly I had never imagined that you can create a business based on the paranormal and even less that there is a The Plan, Ghost Hunting Computer Software to use on your computer for filing cases. Fantastic.
I also intrigue the cost of The Plan, you know if the creator has no other costs after you purchase the program?

  8. What an interesting article. When I think of paranormal activity taking notes so to speak is something that really doesn’t come to mind. Having said that though this tool would be a great asset for both the new paranormal investigator or a seasoned investigator. Also it would be quite beneficial for those wishing to share their notes. I think this piece of equipment would help an investigator greatly as they study and record paranormal activity.

  9. this is a pretty neat peace of software. I know alot of people in my family who believe in ghost hunting, so i will go ahead a recommend it to them so they can give it a try.

thank you for the deep and informative review on this product.

I will check back for more products from you in the future.

  10. Very interesting review Chris! I feel inspired to check out the territory:] This “software for ghost hunters”, as I understand, is easy to use for a descent price, and though more catering to novices, could be a writer’s first choice. Just out of curiousity, is this more than just another blogging tool, and if so, how? I ask because I see that any group, or even one person could use this product to certain satisfaction, within it’s defines. I would call it a reporter’s tool. Of course, ghost hunting and paranormal investigation are a for of reporting. I’m quite interested!

    1. Ahhh I wouldn’t really call it a blogging tool Sam – more a sort of Microsoft Office for the paranormal hunter (if that makes any sense whatsoever!).

  11. I have a friend who is very much into the paranormal and this would be the perfect gift for her. She’s braver than I am and will investigate any odd occurrences reported in our state. She’s not very tech-savvy so this program sounds like it would be perfect for her since it’s easy to use. I know she currently logs everything into Word documents…would that make it easy for her to transfer her data to this program?

    1. Hi David,

Yeah it’s pretty simple to handle all text based files with this software – data transfer shouldn’t be a problem.

  12. Hell to the yeah!!

This information is awesome! I have a couple of buddies that are into paranormal investigations. They can learn more about what they are purchasing.

They may need new software, so I’ll let them know about this and it is afforadable to include customer satisfaction.

I’m sure they’ll love this, great products and thanks!

    Good luck!

  13. Very interesting! I never thought about there being computer software out there for novice ghost hunters, I wish I had known this in my ghost hunting days! I used to go out to “haunted” locations all of the time before I had my kiddos with friends, but all we ever used were our cell phones. I even looked into applications for my smartphone during that time but there weren’t very many at the time and they didn’t work very well.
This makes me want to get it so I can go out and do some more paranormal investigations like I used to! Now I’m itching to go “ghost hunting.” Thanks for the info.

  14. This is really cool, I actually watch a lot of paranormal investigation shows, and like to read about investigations as well, and while I had an idea that there is definitely specific equipment geared towards getting effective results, I didn’t know there was software for that too! Definitely an interesting read! Have you ever done any investigations? If so, you should totally post about them!

    1. I did when I was younger Megan yes, but two children gradually eat into my spare time – isn’t that always the case? 🙂

  15. Like many of the other comments I was shocked to find that there is software for paranormal investigations! I have done some amateur “spend the night” tours at a local asylum that is thought to be haunted and I loved watching Ghost Hunters when it was on. Just wanted to thank you for bringing this to my attention. This meets both my interest in paranormal and my desire to stay organized!

    1. Amateur “spend the night” tours at a local asylum – fair play that’s some freaky stuff Scott! Well done mate! 🙂

  16. Very interesting information you have presented, I thought I had seen em all. The closest thing I can relate to this subject is watching scary movies, but I can tell you one thing, I bet companies and ploys like are tricks to get people to spend their money. I have little experience on this subject. but would like to know more, have you personally tried it?

    1. Yes of course – there is a copy of it running on this laptop I’m typing from now! Unfortunately I don’t get out on the hunt much any longer – kids, families…all that growing old crap! 🙂

  17. Spooky, Spooky, Spooky. Hey Chris, I like your review of this software. It seems to be a good fit for a novice like myself. I think it is important that The Plan makes it easier for someone who is just starting out into the investigating ghosts business. I myself wouldn’t be participating in the ghost hunt lol but I will be doing the back office work so I will be taking a look into this particular software and sharing it with my team.

I’m really surprised that this program is so cheap – so many of the others are way over-priced for my liking.

    Thanks for the review!

    1. Yeah this is actually the first ‘fairly priced’ bit of paranormal software I have come across Kachina, they usually hike these things up to ridiculous prices! 🙂

  18. WHAT?? This is so bizarre is this really real?
I had no clue there was such a thing as Paranormal investigation software. Is this for online security purposes like help people avoid malware, identity theft, weird hacker activity or is this used as a guideline to collecting data on physical paranormal activity? I feel like this is from a scene in ghost busters where they have an office full of files that collect data based on paranormal activity….. is this a similar concept?
    Very interesting!
    Regards Grace

    1. Yeah this is the real deal Grace – for all you ghostbusters out there! (this has nothing at all to do with online security by the way…why would you think that LOL).

  19. Crikey, had no idea this genre of software was even out there. In fact, I’m not sure who would use it. Would it be good for investigating your own paranormal problems?
I ask this because we have something strange going on in our bungalow. Could be our imagination but things keep going missing. There’s only 2 of us in the home so it’s a bit of mystery. Not only do things go missing but strange things appear too, things that don’t belong to us, like a gold wedding ring. Doors lock by themselves and there’s a lot of strange noises. Perhaps this software will help us unravel the mystery? Ches

    1. Why not Ches? Sounds a bit like poltergeist activity if things are going missing. Type ‘poltergeist’ into the search bar of this site and check things out for yourself!!!!

  20. Wow, I really had no idea that software such as this even existed. I have always been intrigued by the paranormal, the unknown, or even the “ghost” world. I have had some experiences of my own from when I was younger to even as an adult. If I would actually want to go looking for activity then this would definitely be a program I would try. I have one question though,, is there a monthly fee or is that a one time purchase fee?

  21. Great article with some very helpful information.I really like how you lay out not only the pro’s, but the cons as well. I have been interested in the ghost hunting business for a long time and this will definitely help me make my decision on a starter tool even I could use. By the way, do you have any other starter recommendations for a novice like me?

    1. Well EMF meters, a digital audio recorder and a Spirit Box seem to be the way to go these days Patrick – include this software and you have a complete ghost hunting setup!!!!

  22. wow! a piece of software to help with paranormal investigation? Awesome!
Great website on paranormal mysteries. I’ve always been a fan of shows like coast to coast and ancient aliens, etc., I love learning the truth about such things and you’ve done a great job on your site. A definite bookmark here. THANK YOU! 😉

    1. Thanks Jackie – it’s always great to come across people who share the same interests as us! Thanks for the bookmark and for the comment. Hope to see you here again soon! 🙂

  23. The subject is strange , It caught my eyes from the first glance , and it attracts the user to read .
I like that it is easy enough to use for all novice teams to compile all of the data and I believe it allow greater depth and precision to the compiling process .

    1. Well, one would hope the subject of Paranormal Investigation Software attracts the reader Sam – it certainly attracts us (and many of our visitors to the site!).

  24. If I listened to my logical brain, I would have walked away when you mentioned paranormal investigations. However, a part of me, my intuition is intrigued, and it wants to know more. You see when I was younger I used to see things that my mother said were never there and I still see them today. Not to the extent I did back then, and I know this may seem crazy, but I think this program is going to help me make sense of what I see. I appreciate the recommendation.

    1. Sounds like you’ve got a gift of vision in place Amberlee – sounds very interesting!

I must point out that this program is only suitable for you if you plan on taking on a few investigations yourself (I wouldn’t want you to purchase something you didn’t need – it would look bad on us and be bad for our business!).

      Happy hunting! 🙂

  25. Your website caught my attention. I’ve been into ghost hunting. This is the first time I came across ghost hunting software. It’s something I should look into.

I’ve done a couple of ghost hunting tours, in Gettysburg, PA and Williamsburg, VA. It was fun! I was given this device…I think it’s called an EMF meter…it has 3 lights on it, and the red light means you’re very close to a ghost. That was exciting!

    1. Yeah that sounds very much like an EMF meter Karin – sounds like you had a great time on your ghost hunts! Are you thinking about going again any time soon?

  26. Ghost Hunting Software! This sounds amazing! It is under $20 also, I have always been interested in ghost hunting, everyone I hang around are all scared, But I would definitely be interested in this software. You give it a 9 out of 10, so It must be good. I hope it is as simple as you make it sound I really want to try this. Thank you for the great review!

    1. As far as PC programs go it is very simple to use Kenny – at first I was a little dubious about all the parameters but it’s pretty much point and click when it comes to usage. And yes, a bargain price to boot! 🙂

  27. It’s good to have something for beginners. You gotta start somewhere, right? Ghost hunters need to keep all of their files organized too. It seems pretty inexpensive and it has a money back guarantee. Pretty good deal. Is there a lot of software available for ghost hunters? I really enjoyed reading this.

    1. There is quite a lot out there Gary but most of it seems heavily overpriced. We found this choice to be reliable, simple and cheap…which is why we decided to promote it! 🙂

  28. OK, so this is pretty cool. I’ve seen the “ghost hunter” shows on TV and noted how much post production went into the actual show, but never gave much thought to ghost hunting or investigation itself. Of course, when you think about it, there has to be equipment; hardware and software to allow them conduct their work. Nice that it isn’t too expensive to get started either, meaning you could test it out and work out what you like and don’t like before investing big bucks. Thanks for bringing this info to our attention. Appreciated.

    1. No problem Gavin – we were also impressed by the low price of this software!

In this day and age people whack huge mark ups on computer programs so it’s nice to see the paranormal community taking the more ‘human’ approach (no pun intended!).

  29. We have been using The Plan for a few years now and love it. Purchased it in 2011 and have had no problems with it until last several months. Any time i click into one of the Time and Date boxes to change the time and date info, the program freezes and you have to use Control+Alt+Delete to close the program. If you don’t save the information that you have entered before you click any of the Time and Date boxes you will lose everything you have entered. I have contacted Dennis about the problem and haven’t received a response or solution to my issue as yet. Maybe he is working on it. We are a very active paranormal team and use the program very often. I here there is a updated version from 2.3 to 3.0. I would like to update the program.

Each time we present the completed pdf to a client we have to use White Out and change the times and dates by pen. It doesn’t look very professional.

    Any help would be appreciated

    1. Hi Michael,

I’m the admin of this site but I’m afraid one of our writers is the expert on The Plan (I’ve only used the software a handful of times!). I seem to remember Dennis leaving a few comments on this article – do you want me to see if I can dig out the email address he used?

  30. Hey Chris

That would be helpful. Our team has been using the program since 2011. Within the last couple of years we have gotten very busy and use the program at the very least once a month more often twice a month. I have his email address and this is the one I used to contact him.

I need to resolve this issue and would like to have a download link so I can update the program.

Your help would definitely be appreciated

    Thank you

    1. Hi Michael, finally be able to locate that email address…unfortunately it’s the address!!!

It seems like this is the only way to contact him. The product is a Clickbank product so maybe they will have a direct line contact to the vendor? It’s always worth a try (Clickbank support is always really impressive!)

  31. Thanks Chris,

Yeah, I have contacted Dennis three times for well over a month on this issue, and he hasn’t responded as yet. Sure would like to get this taken care of, I’m sure it’s probably an easy fix. Maybe even an update to version 3 may do the trick.

Thanks for all of your help Chris
    Much appreciated

    Paranormal Research Organization

    1. I’m really sorry about that. I will keep my eyes open for a separate contact option and if I find one I will get it to you asap.

  32. Hi great review of Plan and I really like your website. I never knew there are software available for paranormal activities. From reading your review it seems like a good entry level package to start your ghost hunting career and seems pretty easy to use. I’m not a ghost hunter myself but do find paranormal activities interesting.

  33. Great post and good info.

I think as an amateur this equipment is good enough, to do this with friends or family.

However, for professionals I have my doubts about it. Do you think it is really suitable for professional teams?

I would order this for happy ghost hunting!

Thanks a lot for sharing it with us!

    1. Hi Emmanuel,

Well of course it’s aimed at professionals? It’s actually one of the only types of this paranormal product out there at the moment!!!

      Read the article again mate.

  34. Hi Chris! I must say that this is a very interesting article. I believe in ghosts but honestly, I did not know that these kinds of software exist. I like that it is great for starters so I might give it a chance, it is not expensive after all. I can’t wait to tell this to my parents lol.

  35. Interesting to see a paranormal investigation software. This is my first time of hearing of such investigating software

And I must commend you for writing your review on this software because I know is going to be helpful to many. But I will like to ask a question. Can this software work on all windows, like window 7.8 and so on. Or it has a specific window it can be install on.

  36. Its really amazing to know that one could get a Paranormal Investigation Software. I think there are really real unexplained mysteries which only could be unlocked by the software. Its scarce to find these kinds of unique subject as this online, but am so glad to have come across your article because its really though provoking, explicit and most importantly very informative. Thanks so much for this lovely post, I hope to get more posts from you subsequently.

    1. Well we’ve got over a thousand posts/articles on here already Dapoach! Why don’t you try out a few of them first?

  37. Hello, this is quite interesting. A software that helps users bring all their data together is a must have. The ability to gather different kinds of data together, both case notes, videos etc will be great. With such data being in a central place like case management system, it will be handy for one to use in case of giving detailed evidence etc.

The pros are great, especially the customization and the security. Talking about the cons, professionalism, if the creator of the software is opportune to read this review, I guess he will do something about it. I believe with time, he might be able to include Macs users.

Great review, thanks for sharing this post.

  38. Hi Chris,

I haven’t gone ghost-hunting before, however, I experienced some paranormal activity around a pond in my neighborhood when I was much younger and I will love to unravel it. Many people in my environment still consider the pond a haunted place.

It will be good to get my hands on an easy-to-use software that can make my ghost hunting expedition an intriguing one. Just a few quick questions:

Does the software require internet connection to work? (I am asking because connectivity around the pond area is usually very poor). Plus, does it need some upgrade in the future?

Thanks in anticipation of your response.

    1. As with all modern software, there is a good chance an update will be released at some point mate. As for internet connection, no, this will work standalone if needed.

      Hope this helps! 🙂
