The Ropen Sightings

The Ropen Sightings

This article will be taking a look at the Ropen sightings that tribes in New Guinea have reported seeing. Did these Pterosaurs-type creatures manage to avoid extinction?

Let’s take a closer look…

The Lost World

This mysterious volcanic area in New Guinea is often referred to as ‘The Lost World’. Apparently, the island has a long history of unveiling new species of animal.

Expert cryptozoologists believe that this area is home to a dangerous, winged creature, who’s first recorded sighting was made in the 16th century.

More recently, a American fighter pilot named Duane Hodgekinson reported seeing a strange creature in 1944. He was flying over a clearing in the area when he witnessed what he called a ‘pterodactyl’ taking off into flight.

His witness statement was met with ridicule from his superiors…and the public.

The Lost World

But this sighting seemed to trigger many other strange encounters, and since the end of the Second World War, there have been more than a dozen sightings of what local tribes have named ‘The Demon Flyer’ or ‘Ropen’.

It is typically described as having a leather-like skin without any feathers, with a large crested head and over-sized teeth.

Certain reports also point to the fact that it’s wingspan is well over 25 feet and it emits a ghostly bio-luminescent light from it’s body.

The Ropen Sightings

Cryptozoologists firmly believe that if any dinosaurs were to have survived extinction…flying reptiles would be the ones to have done so.

The Pterosaur fossils found over the years point to the fact that this fascinating dinosaur managed to evolve from a small airborne animal, into much larger, fearful animals.

Some experts even believe that the Pterosaur was still evolving when the dinosaurs were thought to have been wiped out!

The Ropen

Cryptozoologists frequently point out that this winged beast managed to survive all three of the major periods of dinosaur reign on the planet…so they could well have survived extinction…hiding out in the remote areas of New Guinea.

However, there is no indication from the fossil record that points to them having any sort of light or energy beaming out of their body.

A famous local report from 1986 suggests that a man was killed by the Ropen near a former military base.

He was snatched off the ground, carried into the air, and then dropped about 40 feet to the ground. The heavily injured man was then picked back up by the creature…and eaten in a nearby tree…in front of his terrified fellow villagers.

Now it’s over to you…

Do you believe that this airborne form of dinosaur somehow managed to avoid extinction, and is hiding out in New Guinea?

  1. I definitely hope that the ropen could still exist and be hiding out somewhere, it’ll be so interesting if someone could get a good video of it in HD quality. I believe there are many creatures on land and sea that were thought to be extinct but still exist. If they do exist what do their regular diet consists of? You mentioned that they may be hiding out in remote areas of New Guinea, if they do exist then do you think they are deliberately hiding to avoid being seen?

    1. I would have thought that by now, they’d know that humans are probably a threat, and they would be good at staying out of sight Kent.

      As for the diet – that’s a good one…no idea there…

  2. Cool story. I’m not sure I believe a beast like that would survive the extinction. But then again crocodiles and komodo dragons are decendants of dinosaurs, so there might be a similar bird decendant that has been spotted. However I would expect more proof by now of such an animal when there have been multiple sightings.

It’s sure cool that New Guinnea still produces new species. There are still so many places in the world that are unexplored with unidentified animals. It’s all very exiting to me. Can’t wait to see what the next discovery will be.

  3. I think the pterodactyl could possibly survive the dinosaur era and had evolved over time to be something smaller perhaps a bat, maybe? Just like the cockroaches it’s been traced back to the dinosaur era and managed to survive the dinosaur extinction. It would be exciting to find out. I wondered if any scientist or anyone had gone back to the area and do some sighting seeing?

  4. Today scientists are continue to investigate this problem. I’m found the latest information on this topic. I will give them in our discussion.

On January 14, 2017, Whitcomb and the physicist Clifford Paiva agreed that the old photograph (now called Ptp) of an apparent Pteranodon surrounded by six apparent Civil War soldiers is an authentic recording of a modern pterosaur. Over several months in 2017, those two scientists found evidence that includes the following:1) An apparent prop under the beak of the animal indicates the photograph was probably taken before about the year 1870.2) A drag mark on the ground and a broken-down small sapling tree indicate that the animal was dragged into the clearing.3) The head resembles that of a Pteranodon, although it may not be precisely like those species that have already been found in fossils.4) The soldiers shown in the photo were standing as they appear to be, according to their positions in relation to distances from the camera.5) Skeptical comments, before 2017, regarding Photoshop hoaxing of soldier images—those have been found to be in error.

    1. Right yeah….

We did cover that photo in a past article Mark, and it does have nothing really to do with the article above…but we appreciate your input (and maybe look up that Civil War photo article in our archives and comment there!) 🙂

  5. Hi Chris, its so difficult to tell these days what is and isn’t real. I for one believe nothing’s impossible. If there have been so many sightings there has to be something to the this! If they are still around one would imagine someone, somewhere would have found a carcass of one by now?
